Kaitlyn did an excellent job presenting her poster to us today! Kaitlyn is a SUPER STAR SECOND GRADER!

Kaitlyn is 8 years old. Her birthday is in February. Her favorite subjects are art, gym, and writing. When she grows up she wants to play her favorite sport, softball, professionally. Kaitlyn is very good at reading and softball. Her favorite softball position is pitcher. Kaitlyn’s dad makes her laugh and she is looking forward to going on our class end-of-the-year field trip. Kaitlyn is a SUPER STAR SECOND GRADER!

Will presented his Star Student poster to the class today. Good job Will! Will is a SUPER STAR SECOND GRADER!!!

Will is 8 years old. His birthday is in September. Will’s favorite subjects are gym, math, and recess. Will is very good at math and wants to be an accountant when he grows up. Two things Will loves are math and movies. His favorite sport is soccer. Will’s dad makes him laugh because he tickles him! Will is looking forward to getting older so he can have more time on his iPad. Will is a SUPER STAR SECOND grader!

Will, Elli, Trey, and Charlotte presented a play called “Henry & Mudge & the Starry Night” to us today. They did an amazing job!!!

Marissa did an incredible job presenting her poster to us today. Marissa is a SUPER STAR SECOND GRADER!!!

Marissa is 8 years old. Her birthday is in January. Her favorite subjects are lunch, math, and specials. When she grows up she wants to be an actress and singer. Marissa is very good at drawing and her favorite sport is soccer. She loves her family and friends and all of her stuffed animals. Marissa’s dad makes her laugh and she is looking forward to another family trip to New York. Marissa is a SUPER STAR SECOND GRADER!

SOCIAL STUDIES – Communities

Miss S had the students participate in a “pretend” decision making activity that would benefit their school community. They voted to express their choice and to determine the will of the majority. Students also experienced how money travels through a community and we played a money “match-up” game. Today we said goodbye to Miss S as all of our lessons have been completed. She is an amazing teacher and we will all miss her!

The student citizens have voted! The majority picked the recycle project over the other two options.

Elijah and Dominic are having fun playing the money “match-up” game!

Miss S is surrounded by all of her wonderful students.

The students made an AWESOME “thank-you” book for Miss S and we gave her a big variety jar of M & M’s. She was delighted!!! THANKS for teaching us all about communities Miss Salerno. We will miss you!!!

WRITING – Opinion Writing continued . . .

MATH – Picture & Bar Graphs

SOCIAL STUDIES – “Our Community” – Students learned that workers who produce goods and services earn money for their work, get taxed and why workers get taxed.

Miss Salerno reviewed vocabulary from last Thursday’s session. Plus, she introduced many new words (produce, product, production, goods, and services).

Students were asked to produce “donuts” for sale at Sweet O’s Donut Shop. I was the inspector and the donuts had to be of “high quality” in order to sell them.

Max and Sam are busy trying to produce quality donuts for their team.

Elli is working as fast as she can while trying to produce perfect donuts for her team!

Miss Salerno went over the Production Record chart to discuss production amounts, how many donuts were defective, and how many donuts met quality standards.

Miss Salerno asked the students to be innovative and create a donut flavor of their own. Marissa was designing a Rainbow Rain donut.

Drew is busy creating his donut. Yum . . .

Miss S is “paying” the workers from Sweet “O” Donut shop.And then do you know what she did? She became the tax collector and collected taxes from each of the workers!

These students are employed by the government. Miss S also paid them for the work they do. Guess what? She came along and taxed them too!

Graham is busy putting stickers on the appropriate spots on his community map.

Charlotte is busy locating businesses and workers to put her stickers on her community map.

Katie did a great job presenting her poster to the class today. Katie is a SUPER STAR SECOND GRADER!

Katie is 7 years old. Her birthday is in July. Her favorite subjects are recess, lunch, and music. When she grows up she want to be a veterinarian. She loves her family and her dogs. Katie is very good at her favorite sport, gymnastics. Katie’s dog makes her laugh! Katie looks forward to going to Florida in the future. Katie is a SUPER STAR SECOND GRADER!

SOCIAL STUDIES – Communities (We had our first of five sessions with our Junior Achievement awesome presenter, Jessica Salerno. It is so much FUN and we learned so much!) I took pictures but they didn’t turn out! I plan to have the situation remedied by her next visit on Tuesday of next week.

Elijah did a great job presenting his poster to the class today. Elijah is a SUPER STAR SECOND GRADER!

Elijah is 8 years old. His birthday is in October. His favorite subjects are recess, computers, and physical education. When Elijah grows up he might want to be a football player, movie maker, or a track & acrobatics athlete in the olympics. Elijah loves his mom and reading. Two things Elijah is really good at are playing video games and reading. His favorite sport is football and his friend Trey makes him laugh. Elijah looks forward to having his friend Max over to his house to play. Elijah is a SUPER STAR SECOND GRADER!

WEIRD BUT TRUE – Did you know the Giraffe-Necked Weevil has a long, hinged neck which operates like a crane and a bulldozer to roll up leaves for a nest?
