SOCIAL STUDIES – “Our Community” – Students learned that workers who produce goods and services earn money for their work, get taxed and why workers get taxed.
Miss Salerno reviewed vocabulary from last Thursday’s session. Plus, she introduced many new words (produce, product, production, goods, and services).
Students were asked to produce “donuts” for sale at Sweet O’s Donut Shop. I was the inspector and the donuts had to be of “high quality” in order to sell them.
Max and Sam are busy trying to produce quality donuts for their team.
Elli is working as fast as she can while trying to produce perfect donuts for her team!
Miss Salerno went over the Production Record chart to discuss production amounts, how many donuts were defective, and how many donuts met quality standards.
Miss Salerno asked the students to be innovative and create a donut flavor of their own. Marissa was designing a Rainbow Rain donut.
Drew is busy creating his donut. Yum . . .
Miss S is “paying” the workers from Sweet “O” Donut shop.And then do you know what she did? She became the tax collector and collected taxes from each of the workers!
These students are employed by the government. Miss S also paid them for the work they do. Guess what? She came along and taxed them too!
Graham is busy putting stickers on the appropriate spots on his community map.
Charlotte is busy locating businesses and workers to put her stickers on her community map.
STAR STUDENT
Katie did a great job presenting her poster to the class today. Katie is a SUPER STAR SECOND GRADER!
Katie is 7 years old. Her birthday is in July. Her favorite subjects are recess, lunch, and music. When she grows up she want to be a veterinarian. She loves her family and her dogs. Katie is very good at her favorite sport, gymnastics. Katie’s dog makes her laugh! Katie looks forward to going to Florida in the future. Katie is a SUPER STAR SECOND GRADER!
